27/08/2024Grenfell Tower Inquiry final report

Next week will mark the publication of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s final report

It is an important milestone in what has been a very long and difficult process for many, especially the bereaved families and survivors of this terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with them throughout this difficult time.

The Inquiry has had significant statutory powers which will have enabled it to see things others could not see. So, for LABC, we await the report and its recommendations with interest, an open mind and a continuing commitment to play our part in transforming the competence and culture of the construction industry to deliver building safety.

We cooperated fully with the Inquiry throughout, providing detailed evidence and testimony. We have wholeheartedly acknowledged and apologised for any areas where LABC has failed in the past. Much has changed in the years following the fire. There is now a new regulatory regime and building control is now a registered profession.

We have been forging ahead to drive these changes, investing significantly in building future skills and competence within public sector building control

For now, we can assure our members and others in the industry that we will be reviewing the report in full and putting in place a plan for our next steps as an organisation. If the final report recommends further action, we will of course review this and respond accordingly.

LABC’s formal response to the Inquiry report will be published on this website as soon as we have had the opportunity to read and consider its conclusions.
